International Silk Conference

Frontiers in Silk Sciences and technologies | 12-15 June 2019

Silk, a fiber at the service of a new technological phase, in search of an integrated biological and biocompatible system, certified and traceable in its supply chain. This new paradigm is being discussed these days in Trento , at the Castello Del Buonconsiglio , during the International Silk Conference 2019 in collaboration with the Trento Innovation Conferences on Materials Engineering (TICME), which has been in contact with the polymer, composite and biomaterial sector for special applications in various sectors for years.

An international opportunity, with more than 80 experts in the field of Silk Sciences, to present to the academic and industrial world, but not only, the exceptional properties and applications of silk .

Research projects and exchanges of ideas in different fields

From engineering to biology, from microbiology to biomedicine. All with the participation of the industrial and biomedical world, with a vision aimed at studying the implementation, in the field, of the exceptional characteristics of silk .

We at T.Silk like to think that this could be a first step towards the effective valorization of that fiber that we have known for more than 120 years of experience in the field, which we have placed as the absolute protagonist of our padding for its unparalleled natural qualities, performance, thermoregulation, sustainability and certainly for its chemical/physical peculiarities.

An important first step that finally places silk at the center of an academic/productive/commercial system united by the valorization and implementation of a true natural and ecological fiber, in a market of users and consumers too often influenced by other fibers (often synthetic), whose only plus is represented by an exasperated marketing without any real basic value.

From the press release of the conference presentation:

A silk thread unites nature and medicine. Resistant and biocompatible, silk (…) is already a reality in the regeneration of tissues, prostheses and organs. From Wednesday, the University of Trento will host the world conference dedicated to silk and its applications, especially in the biomedical field. (…) Silk has exceptional natural qualities. It is light, soft and hygroscopic: perfect for clothing. Less known is that silk thread can resist as much as a steel wire of the same thickness. For this reason, silk is used with increasing success in the energy sector, in the optical industry and especially in medicine for the creation of prostheses and the repair of damaged tissues in the human body. (…) Antonella Motta, professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and scientific director of the conference. «In order for companies to invest, greater safety must be guaranteed, starting with quality control of silk throughout the supply chain

Performance, chemical-physical characteristics, naturalness, eco-sustainability, compatibility with human physiology, usability in different fields, but also commitment to the creation of an integrated supply chain system .
